Equipment Financing

Equipment Quote Decoder

Most equipment quotes contain two prices. The cash price printed near the top, and a second, larger price hidden inside the monthly payment. The vendor rarely states the financing rate that connects them. This tool takes the numbers from a real quote and computes the implied annual rate, the total that would actually be paid, and the gap between the two prices. It describes what the quote contains. It does not recommend whether to sign it.

Illustrative arithmetic based on the inputs above. The implied rate is the internal rate that makes the payment stream equal the amount financed. Quotes that bundle fees, service contracts, or insurance into the payment will show a higher implied rate than the financing alone.

How underwriters read this number

Lenders reviewing a practice's file treat vendor financing as debt regardless of what the paperwork calls it. The payment lands in the same debt-service calculation as a bank loan. An implied rate meaningfully above prevailing equipment-loan rates usually means one of three things. The financing carries a real premium, the payment includes bundled costs that are not financing at all, or the cash price was inflated before the payment was built. Comparing the implied rate against a written equipment-loan quote from a bank or credit union is the fastest way to tell which one it is. Financing structures and programs differ by country. The financing programs reference maps the Canadian and US options separately.
